Pre-1863

Community leaders and entrepreneurs shared a common passion for a thriving community and organized a bank dedicated to helping the citizens achieve their dreams.

February 25th, 1863

Congress passes the National Banking Act, establishing a national banking system in the United States, authorizing the formation of federally chartered national banks.

July 18th, 1863

Original Charter

Founders of the bank submit application to receive a national bank charter to the newly formed O.C.C. The application listed $50k in capital, the equivalent to $926k today.

September 19th, 1863

The Department of Treasury, through the OCC, grants national bank charter #86 to First National Bank of Germantown, representing the 86th charter granted under the National Banking Act of 1863. Among the bank's founders were John Stump, Christian Rohrer, Joseph Shank, Henry S. Gunckel, John F. Kern, and David L. Oblinger.

October, 1864

Construction is completed for the main office of First National Bank of Germantown located at 17 N. Main St. in Germantown, Ohio.

1904

Farmers & Citizens Savings Bank is established in Germantown as a savings bank, chartered under the laws of Ohio.

1954

Farmers & Citizens Savings Bank merges into First National Bank of Germantown, further deepening the banks role and relationships within the community.

1963

DriveThruThe convenience of a drive thru is added at its main office located on Main Street.

1971

Expansion of the Main Street office includes a new banking lobby and an expanded drive-thru.

1985

The bank introduces convenient 24-hour banking with its first automated teller machine (ATM).

2013

First National Bank of Germantown is currently the 7th oldest nationally chartered bank operating in the United States and is celebrating 150 years of service to our community.
